My commission slots are limited and I want the artwork to be the best reflection of my work and something you will love for a long time. The following points are critical to a successful custom artwork.

I draw from your photos. A good portrait / custom artwork starts with a good photo. Take a moment to review these guidelines to help you choose the best photo for your artwork. Need photo advice, email me at marciakingart@gmail.com

Good Lighting

• Avoid photos that are overly filtered and don't show the true skin tone, eye color, hair color and essence of the subject.

• Choose a well-lit photo where you can clearly see the persons face, in particular the persons eyes (I cannot complete the portrait if their face is covered in shadow)

• If you want me to draw from multiple separate photos try to provide photos where the lighting is consistent in each photo.

Cropping and Accessories

• I work directly from your photos to create your artwork. Be sure to select a photo that includes majority of the subject in frame.

• If you are providing a photo where there are accessories such as hats or glasses, I will always include the accessories unless otherwise noted. However if you want me to remove something like a hat, you need to provide photos so I know what their head looks like under the hat.

Special Requests

• I am open to special requests but there are limits e.g.

  • I can't edit a photo to close or open a mouth, add a smile etc

  • I can't make up someone's eyes if their eyes are covered or partially covered in the photo

  • I can't dry their hair if it's wet in the reference photo.

  • All that aside, let me know your special requests and we will talk through them and I'll be clear what I can and can't achieve.

Position of subject

• Portraits look best if I can see someone's head, neck and shoulders at a minimum.

Multiple subjects

• I can draw from multiple separate photos. I can either combine all the people in the same drawing or separate drawings. If you want the people in the same drawing please try and provide photos where lighting is similar and what people are wearing can co-exist. e.g. If you supply one photo of a person in a bikini and the other person in a suit, that is what I will draw :) !

Photo Quality

• Poor quality photo/s could lead to a poor quality artwork. I will let you know if I can't draw from your photos. If I say I can't, this is based on years of experience and many photos I've worked from before.

• Blurry, low quality photos will limit my ability to provide a quality artwork.

• Zoom in on your photos a little bit and ensure they are still clear, that's usually a good sign it will work.

Commission guidelines

Prices

• The following are the starting prices you can expect for a custom art work based on the sizes mentioned below. These are subject to change if your requirements are more complex.

1 Person or Pet

Black and White - $250.00

Black and White with a splash of color - 300.00

All Color - $400.00

 

Add $100 for each additional person

Deposit

• When you accept the quote, you need to pay a 25% non-refundable deposit before I will commence the artwork.

​

Final Payment

• Final payment is due prior to shipping artwork.  Artwork will be shipped within 3 working days of payment being received.

​

Cancellations

• There is a 5 day cooling off period after your deposit has been paid. You will get your deposit back in full if you cancel

within those 5 days.

​

Time to complete the artwork

• You will be advised in the quote how long the commission will take and when you can expect it to be finished.

• Time to complete depends on size and complexity.

• As I draw by hand, the estimated completion time might be impacted if

  • My first attempt hasn't been successful or to a standard I am happy with

  • You ask for changes or for me to 'try again'.

  • It's a good idea to leave at least 3 months before birthdays, Christmas or special occasions

Artwork Size

• I commonly work in three sizes and the prices listed above are with these sizes in mind. I am open to discussions about other sizes.

  • ​A3 (297mm X 420mm)​

  • A2 (420mm X 594mm)

  • A1 (594mm X 841mm)

• Smaller doesn't mean cheaper. In the world of portraits, a face is a face and sometimes drawing small can actually take longer. So when choosing size, chose the size that fits your wall best not a smaller size because you assume it's cheaper.

Artwork Review

• I will send you a photo of your work either during the creation or once completed. If after seeing the drawing you want changes I will do my best to accommodate any requested changes, but as my art is drawn by hand sometimes it might not be fixable.  

• If you are unhappy with the art work and I am not able to fix the art work:

a. I can 'try again' but drawing it for a second time would require an additional 25% off the total quote and that 25% would be non-refundable.

b. We unfortunately stop the process and you do not have to pay the remaining balance.

Refunds

• Each art work is hand drawn and custom made specifically for you.  I will work with you to get it right but art can be subjective and there is unfortunately a possibility (rare) that I can't capture the subject in a way that meets your expectations. This however will be identified during the Artwork Review and you won't have paid the remaining balance.

• Refunds will be offered to customers that receive the wrong items or damaged items. If any of these apply please contact me within 48 hrs of receiving your order at marciakingart@gmail.com

• Deposits will only be refund if there is an unforeseen, unexpected event in my life preventing me from commencing and finishing your artwork.  This does not include creating an artwork you are unhappy with.

Exchanges 

• I do not offer exchanges. Please ensure you have reviewed the Artwork when a digital image is sent to you and you have ordered the right size etc.

Cancellations

• You have 14 days to cancel from the date your order is placed

​

Shipping

• The shipping costs will be included in the quote provided and is based on location and whether the artwork is framed or not.

• I ship globally.
